At the 24 October 2025 ABET governance meeting, the Computing Area Delegation (CAD) approved for immediate implementation effective 2026 a modification to General Criterion 2 (PEOs) that is applicable to all computing programs accredited by the CAC, and the ABET Board of Delegates affirmed this decision for all commissions on 25 October 2025. The new requirement is that “the program must have published program educational objectives, as defined in these criteria, that are consistent with the mission of the institution, and the needs of the program’s various constituencies. There must be a documented, systematically utilized, and effective process, involving all constituencies identified by the program, for the periodic review of these program educational objectives that ensures they remain consistent with the institutional mission, and the needs of the program’s constituencies.”  The definition of “program constituencies” is also provided and states that “program constituencies are groups, including external groups, identified by the program that have a common interest in the program and can provide meaningful input regarding the program educational objectives.”  The full text of the new criteria can be found here (see page 1).  Please note that these changes are effective for all accredited computing programs effective Fall 2026.
