At the 25 October 2024 ABET governance meeting, the Computing Area Delegation (CAD) approved several changes to the General Criteria applicable to all accredited computing programs, two approved for immediate implementation effective 2025, and two approved for a year of review and comment before any final action is taken at the Fall 2025 ABET governance meeting.

The approved revisions (effective Fall 2025) to the General Criteria include new language regarding the requirement for faculty competency and currency (Criterion 6: Faculty), and a requirement to create and foster a respectful environment (Criterion 8: Institutional Support).  The full text of both of these General Criterion can be found here (see page 3 and 4).  Please note that these changes are effective for all accredited computing programs effective Fall 2025.

Also approved for a year of review and comment were a set of proposed revisions to the General Criteria.  These include new language regarding Program Educational Objectives and program constituencies (Criterion 2: PEOs), a requirement pertaining to diversity, equity, and inclusion (Criterion 5: Curriculum), and a requirement for a comprehensive project / experience (Criterion 5: Curriculum).  The full text of these General Criterion also can be found here (see page 1 and 2).  Please note that these changes are only proposed at this time; final action will be taken at the Fall 2025 ABET governance meeting.  You can provide feedback on these proposed changes here.
